We Haven't Heard from Andrea

Ok Andrea. You may not know this but Jon volunteered you to organize the Penner 2010 event. You already have a promotional manager (Jesse) and it sounds like people are leaning toward doing it in California instead of down south (I was overruled). Soo....I'm going to try a little poll here on the blog. I want to hear from every family: Who/how many would actually seriously consider attending this event? What time of the year would you prefer? Where and how long? (California and a southern All Inclusive have been tabled, but other suggestions are welcome) Please answer on behalf of your computer illiterate relatives. Hope everyone responds! Thanks, Sheri

  1. For Blake and I we would be there in a heartbeat! Count us in! The only factor that might conflict is timing. Blake has peach season in summer months (June-Sept), so I can not promise him, but we will work so hard to get his biscuit there too if that is when it is!! Location? We would of course love Cali! San Diego, Santa Barbara, Pismo, Newport area...but we are not ones to EVER turn down an all inclusive for a week! What about spring break time? April? May?

  2. As long as Allie and I get a good heads up notice on time we should be able to be there. In terms of the duration of this Pen-Ten-thlon, I think 3 or 4 months should be sufficient don't you? (OK on a more serious note, I think a week would be a crap load of fun, but that might be a long time. Maybe we could do like a four-day event over a weekend. Maybe a Thurs/Fri/Sat/Sun.) My vote in terms of location would lean toward Cali. Maybe we could even do a Cliff's reunion. That was the hotel we stayed at in Pismo two decades ago. That would be fun for sentimental purposes. Plus if Andrea is down for the planning it would at least keep her somewhat close to her home base of operations. In terms of when Spring break, summer, winter, fall, spring, noon time, or harvest doesn’t make much of a difference to me. But Blake does bring an large entertainment factor that would be sorely missed. Because of that, and because of how cranky he gets during peach season, I say we try a spring break or something of that nature. Jesse

  3. So i agree on the whole wanting blakeo around for entertainment.. and he is no fun in work mode (even though we all know he doesnt really work.. he just sleeps under the desk..) so i think not during the summer would be good.. but just throwing it out there the problem with doing spring breaks is that most schools are different as to what week that is.. just saying.. but i love the cali vote! and pismo would be fun. a little cliffs reunion. im feelin that.. love yall!

  4. pete and i are good with whatever but he'll need notice so he can ask for time off. toyota wants their guys to request vaca time in nov. of 2009 for 2010 vacations.
as for where, our first choice would be an all inclusive on some hot island, but cali is nothing to complain about. price is a factor as well and at least with an all inclusive it's one lump sum and you don't need to worry about all the extras etc.
as for timing, we're good with whatever, but speaking on behalf of my siblings, both Trish and Chris are teachers so either summer or march break is best (if they're even planning on coming - we haven't had a meeting yet, but sher and i will do our best to recruit them if need be). summer not so good for blake though understandably, plus it'll be bloody hot wherever we go - so i'm all for march break. but as chels pointed out, it's tough to nail down everyone's march breaks.
in summary, my absolute first choices if no other factors had been voiced would be: an all inclusive somewhere exotic, 1 week, over march break.

  5. Hmmm...looks like we have a dilemma! Good we're talking about this now then! For the most part I can be flexible - April to August (4 month window) I'm free for the most part - the most part being that I'm in coop for 2nd and 3rd year - for you Americans my sophmore and junior year! So that means I have coop this summer as well as next so that kind of complicates things in the fact that being available depends soley on my coop placement. In case you don't know what coop is, it's a work placement, same thing as an internship that gets me set up with a paid job that is related to my program (kinesiology). It's supposed to go through for 4 full months but that depends on the job. Taking time off to be able to get away for that job is kind of questionable however I don't know (who knows really is what I'm saying). So another words, don't make your decision based on me because I can't predict my summer unfortunately!

  6. Scott, Sheri & Maddie would be in pretty much anywhere, anytime. Spring is preferred (since it's already so balmy in Canada in the summer) and somewhere warm. So Southern Cali and walking into Mexico sounds pretty good. Also, the 4 day weekend makes sense for planning all the activities. Those of us coming from farther away may choose to stay and visit, but a long weekend will be easier for most people to swing.
We haven't heard from my parents yet on this blog (or any of the other rents...do we have technology disabilities in the family?) but I'm pretty sure they would come too.

  7. Brian is flexible (he has a great boss!) but unfortunately my choice is limited to March Break or summer of 2010.
